Born in
Birmingham, England, John Michael Osbourne was fourth of the six children. At the
age of 14, on hearing the hit song “She
loves you” by “Beatles” made him
realize that he wanted to be a rock star for the rest of his life. In 1969 he
began his career as the lead vocalist of the pioneering band “Black Sabbath”. They released 8 studio
albums of which the first 4 sold more than a million copies each in the U.S. “Sabotage”, “Paranoid”, “Master of Reality” and “Black Sabbath” are few
albums every heavy metal fan must listen to. In 1979 he went on to pursue a
solo music career. He released 11 albums of which the first 7 were awarded
multi-platinum certifications along with numerous hit singles.
He also
introduced “Ozzfest”, a musical
festival which promoted many new hard rock and heavy metal bands. It has
grossed over $100 million with an attendance of over 5 million since the beginning.
In 2011 “Black Sabbath” reunited to
release a new album entitled “13”
which topped the U.K and U.S album charts. In 2002 he also produced a reality
T.V series “The Osbournes” which
became MTV’s greatest hits. In 2009 he also published an autobiography called “I am Ozzy”. Furthermore a documentary
film about Osbourne’s life and career entitled “God Bless Ozzy” premiered in 2011.
Ozzy Osbourne
was inducted into the U.S Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the U.K Music Hall of
Fame as a solo artist and as a member of the band. He won the Grammy award for
his great music. Recently at the EMA 2014 he was also awarded with the Global Icon
Award. Though he was a very controversial musician, he was loved, adored and
praised by many all around the world.
